Summer skin care products

My summer skincare routine looks a lot different from that of winter’s. In that I actually have one. There’s something about summer that makes me more inclined to get into a skincare routine. More time on my hands + less makeup + more time in the sun prompts me to add a few more products to my bag. Read more to find out what I use and when!

DAILY // I start most mornings off with Simple Exfoliating Face Wipes. I actually use these all year ’round, and these wipes always make my skin feel fresh. If I can only spend a few minutes in the bathroom in the morning, these wipes, sunscreen, a good dry shampoo, and a quality mascara are my standbys for a look that is fresh and awake!

Sunscreen is a must do. Sometime in my very early twenties I stopped feeling the need to sunbathe all the time AND recognized the importance of a quality sunscreen for every day. I use a thicker, more moisturizing blend in the winter, but in the summer, I go for Simple Protecting Light Moisturizer with SPF 15. It’s lightweight and adds just the right amount of moisture before adding a BB cream. I love this stuff!

WEEKLY // In the summertime, I always get in the habit of oil cleansing. Have you heard of this ancient beauty regimen?! It works wonders for my blemishes. I use a 50/50 blend of castor oil and olive oil. The castor is responsible for drawing out the muck in your pores, while the olive oil is a carrier. I massage the oil onto my face for several minutes, and then remove the oil with a warm terrycloth wash rag. I like to spend a solid 8 to 10 minutes with this, so it’s something I do only on Saturday mornings. When I first started oil cleansing, I thought my face would be so oily, all the time. Instead, my skin feels appropriately moisturized and balanced.

Right after oil cleansing, I always treat my nose and forehead to a Biore strip. I use these babies all the time. Probably one of the best beauty products ever. They work especially well after oil cleansing because my skin is exfoliated and my pores are open. If you haven’t tried Biore strips before, you have to find out what they can do for your skin. They’re game changers!

Finally, because castor oil is a little drying, I dab a little jojoba oil on the drier areas of my face. A little goes a long way!

AS NEEDED //  I keep Thayer’s Rose Petal Witch Hazel on hand for a little bit of everything. My mom used witch hazel when I was young, and I always thought it was some sort of magic potion because of its name. And it is! I use it to help refresh any time of day, typically after running errands in 60% humidity. Witch hazel is great for other things too, like toning your skin or soothing a sunburn.

Finally, the last product in my summer skincare arsenal is the Simple Revitalizing Eye Roll On. Every now and again, I wake up to find those dreaded seasonal allergies have found their way to me. This cooling roller helps reduce the swelling under my eyes throughout the day.

What does your summertime skin care routine look like? Can you recommend any products to me?
